Infection Prevention & Control

Information for Caregivers

The Leamington Mennonite Home strives to keep residents safe and healthy and as caregivers, you have a shared responsibility to aid us in these endeavors. By following a few simple infection control tips we can maintain a healthy and safe home for all.

The best ways to make sure your loved ones and other residents don’t get sick is to:

  1. Stay home when you’re sick

    • Please do not visit if you have a fever, cough, diarrhea, nausea, and/or vomiting, or are feeling unwell. Help keep the germs away!

  2. Cover your coughs and sneezes

    • Coughing or sneezing into the crook of your elbow is one of the best ways to avoid expelling germs into your environment and keep your hands clean at the same time.

  3. Wash your hands well and often

    • Hand Hygiene is the single most effective way to prevent the spread of infections. The fastest way is with hand sanitizer. Sanitizer dispensers are located throughout the home, and as caregivers you are required at minimum to clean your hands when you enter and exit the building.

  4. Get your flu shot – it protects you and those around you

    • Flu shot clinics are held in late October/early November for resident caregivers to get their flu vaccine. More information will be sent out to caregivers regarding specific dates and times in the early fall.

Masks are always available for all to use and are located at the front entrance of the Home.

There are times where residents do unfortunately fall ill and are required to stay in their rooms. The resident’s primary caregiver will always be updated if a resident is unwell and if they need to stay in their room for any length of time. During these times, signage will be posted on their door requesting visitors see the Registered Staff on the floor before entering the resident room. Additional signage will display the required Personal Protective Equipment that staff and visitors are required to wear when entering the ill resident’s room. This may include gloves, gown, face mask, and/or face shield. Hand washing is extremely important during these times to stop the spread of germs.
